Search Me

Here is a search that gives you your results in a form that's very similar to coverflow. I'm not sure how much they index (the awesome links results were still in the old format) but it certainly is slick. You can also store your frequently visited sites in stacks for later viewing. Fairly neat.

Sore Thumbs

Another link from Billy who says "This is sort of a bad webcomic that spoofs bad webcomics. The comic covers politics, gaming, and other webcomics. Also, they update religiously thrice a week and have done so for years, so there's a huge back-catalogue I've maybe 50% browsed." I've browsed a few myself and like them pretty well so far. The main character is a very liberal gal who works in her extremely conservative brother's video game store. The art is manga-inspired. I'll definitely be reading through these. Thanks Billy.

Office Snapshots

Office Snapshots is a pretty cool site that has a backlog of hundreds of office spaces of different companies, big and small, from around the world. You can see what type of conditions people work in. I have to say, just from the quick run-down I've done, Pixar has the best office space *EVAR*! Some are what you expect and some are surprising.

Hair Hats

Here's another weird one. This is a site that features hats made out of hair. I think it's meant as fine art, since there isn't any explanation of what's really going on here, and no way to order. You just see all the girls chilling in their hair hats, and if you click on one, you get to see her up-close. Just a bit bizarre.

Lego Robot

Legorobot comics is a beautiful mish mash of twisted humor and MS paint drawings. While the drawings are meant to be crude. Its this crude style that allows the author to get away with some of the topics in a humorous way, which would otherwise come off as offensive, or obscene. Its probably best if you start off with the first comic. My personally favorite being "eye eat" #2.

Totally Awesome Video Of People Getting Punched In The Face

Pretty much what the title says. It's a really high speed camera that shows off just how elastic the face is when you punch it. Men, women, smokers, people drinking water and people getting rained on are all victims here. You just have to see it.

The Bugle

Here's a podcast presented by the UK paper The Times' website featuring John Oliver of the Daily Show and Andy Zaltzman of nothing I'm familiar with. It's just two fairly dry British guys making jokes about the news. Their recurring segments are also very good, with my favorites being "Ask and American" and "Hotties from History." Thanks to Mike for the link.

Dirty Car Art Gallery

Dirty Car Art Gallery is a cool site by Scott Wade, who does art pieces using caked-up dirt on cars. Some of the pieces are insanely good.

Nekro Portfolio

Here's an amazing design and illustration portfolio. There are only 8 paintings on it that I can see, but each one of them is amazing. They all give off a near-future cyberpunk feel that is very cool. I would love to see anything that these concepts were developed into. Thanks to Bryan for the link.

Musical Taste

Today's link is a submission from Billy, who writes, "If you're looking to put together a legendary mix-tape, this is a good place to go for recommendations and general info. It's mostly users writing up recommendations and reviews of specific tracks. Registration is both free and completely unnecessary. I like it that way." Thanks Billy

A Winrar is you

With sweat flowing from my brow, I, after an exhaustive search of mathematical certainties, linguistic probabilities, and theories of pure awesome, have finally determined the winner of last week's WFAL lipogram contest.

"This portal summons gay passion to my optical organs daily."

Congratulations Collin! We'll be contacting you shortly.

Cuatrobots

As an average American, I'm not that into soccer. I know the sport grows in popularity as more people grow up playing it, but I'm still not totally on board. I will tell you, though, that if soccer was like it's depicted in these videos, I would never miss a game. Giant robots, power armor, and explosions abound. I know these are promos for something, but I don't know what. It doesn't really matter, though, because they stand well on their own. Thanks to Bryan for the link.

WFAL contest reminder

Just a reminder today is the last day to enter into the WFAL lipogram contest from last week. So get your entries in before 11:59pm tonight. The winner will be picked over the weekend.

Geekscape

It's a community of geeks who share news and opinions about movies, comics, television, video games, and all things nerdy. It was started by Jonathan London, who also hosts the Geekscape podcast every week, a review show dealing with the same topics I just mentioned. This week, I had the privilege of being the co-host. Here is the show we did:

Reviews: "Kung Fu Panda", "The Strangers", "Sex and the City" and "Zohan" News: Dicaprio goes for Atari! Transformers 2: Revenge of the horrible sequel names! Comics: Astonishing X-Men Annual! 1985! Final Crisis! Video Games: Metal Gear 4 is coming! Jonathan gets a God of War PSP! PLUS! Movies you watched while hostage on a plane!"
Also, the forums are excellent, and you can find me on there as willk.

Six Degrees of Wikipedia

Six Degrees of Wikipedia is, from what I can tell, inspired by the 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon game. The site will let you insert any two words and then determine how many clicks and what articles you have to go through to get from one to another. My favorite example is that to reach the article "giggles," from the "shit" article, you have to pass through the Canterbury Tales. Coincidence? I think not, good sirs. Also the site has some pretty cool information how the geographic center of Wikipedia in the terms of what article takes the fewest clicks to get to every other Wikipedia article

Zombie Survival Quiz

Zombie time. Here's a quiz you can take that will tels you your odds of surviving a zombie apocalypse. It asks questions about lots of things like your genetic makeup (height, gender), fitness (do you exercise?), and personality (would you leave that wounded friend behind?) Then it gives you a grade. I thought I was doing well with an A, but my friend Angie, who showed me the site, ended up with a Z+.

Homemade Bacon Vodka

Being a one ups-man I am forced to out-do bacon salt. I introduce you to Bacon Vodka! Now I love bacon, who doesn't? (Commies don't). Anyways this site has a cool recipe on how to make your own bacon flavored concoction.

Meat Water

Here is a site that advertises Meat Water a Highly Efficient Survival Beverage. It takes design cues from Vitamin Water, but in a way that isn't as immediately appetizing. There are some basic flavors, like Tandoori Chicken and Texas BBQ, all the way up to some more advanced flavors, like the Basic Breakfast (eggs, bacon, and buttered toast). No way to actually order, though, which points to these not being actual products, which probably makes this just a well-designed and fun satire of health drinks.

Bacon Salt

This is salt that tastes like bacon. It doesn't actually contain bacon, so people keeping kosher, vegetarian, or even vegan diets can eat it with gusto. I recently grabbed some of this and couldn't like it more. I've put it, with great success, on eggs, tater-tots, salads, and more. Their motto is "Everything should taste like bacon." I couldn't agree more.

WFAL CONTEST!

So the Gadsby link I posted today got me thinking. I love contests, and I love being a dick about making terrible rules for contests. That said, what I want is readers to submit a 10 word sentence without the usage of the letter "e" (please include correct grammar, subject, and all that book-learned English stuff). You can submit as many as you want, and the best one will be determined by a prestigious think tank group of lipograms experts. (Trust me, I know a guy who knows a guy.)

The Prize
: a choice of any of my limited edition digital prints mailed to you on 13'x19' top quality watercolor paper. Winner will be emailed jpegs of prints to choose from. Free art: can't beat that can you?

The contest run through Friday, June 13th. Submit your entries by commenting on this post or by sending an email to willsawesomelinks@gmail.com.

Gadsby

Very rarely do I ever find something on the internet that makes me go, "Wow, that's really cool," and makes me feel smarter in some degree. Gadsby is a lipogram. The author does a much better job explaining and prefacing his experiment better then I could, but the TL:DR version is the guy writes a 50,000 word story without using the letter "e". Holy shit right?

Goosh.org - The Unofficial Google Shell

For those of you that use unix or are used to a command line may like this take on a google interface. After running the help command, I found myself fairly easily googling myself. Surely enough, I was able to find my sites with no trouble. It's stripped down and basic, but very functional, (although the regular Google is also those things). Check it out.

Castle Vidcons

If you're anything like me, when people talk about console wars, you try to imagine a war with Xbox's storming beachheads and little Wii men firing cannons! The creator of vidcons is a man after my own heart. He's taken the console wars over the past few generations and put them into a feudal middle age setting as they vie for power.

A Daily Dose of Imagery

Here is a really excellent photoblog. The guy posts a picture every day of something he's seen or a place he's been. Sometimes, I think they're even several pictures stitched together. He also gives some brief technical details about the photos that he's been taking. Some cool stuff coming out of this guy!
