Santeri Ojala: Shred Videos

Santeri Ojala is an artist who recorded himself noodling on his electric guitar and set the resulting sounds to videos by famous guitarists. He called them his "shred" videos, and they were taken down off of youtube after some of the featured metalheads complained. Read about it here, and see the vids, which is great, because they're really, really funny. You can see more about his story, as well as see his live appearance on Jimmy Kimmel's tv show at this link: http://blog.wired.com/underwire/2008/02/parody-videos-s.html

Well Cultured

Here's a blog that will help get man-boys a little more well-heeled. At first glance, it's got similar to lad's magazines, such Maxim, with discussions on fashion, sex, grooming, etc. It ditches the girly pics and much of the smart-ass tone of those mags, however, which makes it a little more palatable to those who could stand to be a little more put together, but don't want necessarily want to hang five about bangin' chicks. Not so bad, after all. Thanks to Dave for the link.

Motionographer

Here's a blog dedicated to animation and motion graphics. Most of what you will see on here are commercial spots, music videos, viral vids, and animation. You can find the work of both individuals and companies, and pretty much everything looks great. There are some other cool things, as well, including a "sweded" version of the tron light-bike race, done with stop motion and construction paper. Take a look.

b1158.cn

Here are some collected videos of animals with people heads. Doesn't seem to be any English, so I'm not really sure what's going on here. I am sure that it's very, very strange. I believe the octopus-bodied one is the weirdest to me.

Food Fight

Here's a video that shows a history of war with the native food of each country. Japan fights with sushi, Israel with bagels and motza, Korea comes with kim-chi, and America's fighting force is staffed, of course, with cheeseburgers. It's weirdly silly and kind of creepy at the same time. Thanks to Dave for the link.

The Ones We Love

It's a site where photgraphers submit pictures of people they love. I could describe it in detail, but the site creator has already summed it up without too much trouble:

The Ones We Love is a project highlighting young and talented photographers from around the world. Each artist contributed six photographs of the person(s) who is most important to them, taken outdoors in a natural setting. The goal of the website is to portray the people who are loved, cherished, and inspirational to these artists, and also showcase the differences and similarities in the photographs each of them took within the same guidelines.
There you have it. Click on the photographers to find out a little about them and see the pics.

Stuff White People Like

Here's a blog devoted to things that white people like. It features locations, like San Francisco and Paris, people, like Barack Obama and asian girls, and ideas, like diversity and hating corporations. Each post tells a little bit about why white people like it's respective topic so much, as well as how to use it to get on a white person's good side. Excellent and funny.

The Secret Life of Machines

Here's a show from the late 80's and early 90's that explains the workings of machines that we see and use commonly. Vacuum cleaners, internal combustions engines, refrigerators, photocopiers and more are discussed. The excellent Exploratorium is hosting streaming versions of what looks like the complete series on their site. Thanks to LS3D for the link.

Teplin: Weekly Sketch

Cool sketches once a week. I believe right now he is making houses that are shaped like letters drawn at a 3/4 angle view. It seems really cool. There are a lot of detail, and it's finished in watercolor to add some nice light colorfulness to the illustrations. They are whimsical and fun.

How many playpen balls would it take to fill your apartment?

If you've ever wondered how many playpen balls it would take to fill up your apartment, but not wanted to do all the calculations yourself, then you are in luck. If you know things like the square feet of your apartment floor, the depth you want to achieve, radius per ball and packing effieciency, then it will tell you how many you need. If you can know how much each ball costs, it will also give you a total price. Fun times.

A Softer World

Here's a webcomic that comes out two or three times a week. I believe one person takes photos and another writes. The photos look great, and the words are usually really funny. When they miss, they're fairly emo, but when they hit, they're spot on. Check out my favorite.

Relationship Obituaries

This is a site where you can write an obituary for your dead relationship. Or you can go read about other people falling apart, if that's your thing. Some of these are annoyingly emo, but some are actually kind of funny. The jury is still out on whether or not I would post to something like tihs, but I sure don't mind taking a look.

KitKat- Break Ultime

Another commercial, but I don't care. This CG short looks great. Makes me want to eat KitKats, as well, which is weird, but I don't really care for KitKats very much. Follow the main character as he tries to take a break from his somewhat awful workday experience. It really works well.

Mouth Eyes

I hope you're ready to see something creepy. Here is a collection of images where there subjects' mouth has been photoshopped in two more times in place of their eyes. They're almost all creepy. Many are very well done, which makes them even more creepy, since more detail only adds to the effect. Shudder.

Jeff Russell's Starship Dimensions

Have you ever wondered how starships from different sci-fi universes would measure up against each other? If so, here's the reference you've been looking for. From the smallest at 3.5 meters to the largest at 299,300,000 km, there's a lot of information here. You can also see visual representations side by side from craft lumped into size brackets.

My Paper Mind

Here's some experimental animation with paper cutouts. Each frame receedes away from the camera as the next appears in it's place, adding some cool trail effects to the motion. There's some breakdowns of how the animation was made as well. It works extremely well.

Today is the day.

This is some kind of very involved sequential art project done with photographs. The main subject is a foam man, as well as things made from the foam man. It's pretty interesting, and looks like it took a LOT of time and effort. Thanks to Dave for the link.

Edouard Guiton

An illustration portfolio. This guy is amazing. His illustrations range from children, sci-fi, fantasty and more. He's got a ton of pics and not one of them is bad. Click through and enjoy his black and white renderings. Thanks to Bryan for the link.

Rock Your Glock

This one speaks for itself. I don't have a gun, but if I ever get one, I really want to get one like this. I didn't know it, but it seems like you can customize a lot of different parts of the gun. This outfit specializes in barrel and slide engraving. Check out what you can get!

Saul Bass's Star Wars

This is what the titles for Star Wars might look like if they were made by 60's designer Saul Bass. It's very cool, but definitely would have set the tone for the movies much differently. Thanks to Angie for the link.

Garfield Minus Garfield

This has already made it's way around the internet pretty well, but here it is anyway. Garfield Minus Garfield are regular Jim Davix Garfield comic strips with Garfield totally removed. What's left is a crazy Jon Arbuckle. Definitely funny, and definitely much darker than the originals. As the site itself puts it:
Let’s laugh and learn with him on a journey deep into the tortured mind of an isolated young everyman as he fights a losing battle against loneliness in a quiet American suburb.
