Illuminated

The video on the first page of this site looks amazing. It's a teaser for a story in which people have lost the ability to dream, and so other people dream for them. There's a cute anime-styled heroine, a lot of cool motion graphics, and some very colorful and interesting 3D. Digging a little deeper into the site, you can find that this is being developed as a series. I'd watch it! Thanks to Bryan for the link.

Do's and Dont's with Babies.

First time parents may often be a little overwhelmed at the thought of taking care of an infant. Fortunately for them, this site has several handy do's and dont's about babies. Topics range from "buckling up baby," to "choosing a babysitter," to even "making the baby smile". Thanks to Reuben for the link.

Crap Movie Comics presents Cloverfield

Here is a really funny take on the movie Cloverfield. I saw the site at work when someone sent me an email titled "Cloverfield, without the motion sickness." If you haven't seen the movie yet, it probably won't ruin it for you, but it also won't make a lot of sense. For the record, I've seen the movie and enjoyed it quite a bit, but this is still hilarious, because it's mostly true.

Sleeveface Pool Slideshow

Here's a really cool thing that it seems like a whole bunch of people are doing. They just match up albums so the picture on the cover extends to something in the surrounding photo. Sometimes faces go on to bodies, but in the more creative ones there are props used and shots seemingly caught in mid-action. Very cool.

Jeff de Boer

Here is some amazing art from Jeff de Boer. The first gallery I saw when I came in was one having to do with hand crafted armor for cats and mice. Very cool and imaginative. (It looks like the makings of an animated epic there ever were!) Looking around, you can see some cool stuff like giants statues and steampunkish space gear. Nice work, Jeff.

Lasagna Cat

This is a truly weird one: Garfield strips acted out in live action. After each one there's a music video tribute to Jim Davis and his creation. The song for the video I took the thumbnail from was "Ebony and Ivory." Like I said it's weird, but it's not bad. Big thanks go to Brian W. for the link.

Hulk Out List

The other day someone at work came across this list of every reason why David Banner ever hulked out in the Hulk TV show. It's amazing. The reasons range from "8. Being mauled by a bear" to "48. Helping Ray Walston out with a magic trick by allowing himself to be chained up and put in a tank of water, only to find that drunk Ray has forgotten to leave the escape key inside the tank."

Jay-Zeezer

Here's a cool mash-up of Jay Z and Weezer. The guy admittedly doesn't have much experience mashing up, but his story of how this helped him appreciate rap music is interesting. Definitely check it out.

Cadbury Dairy Milk

Here's a really entertaining commercial for Cadbury something or other. I didn't really pay that much attention to the actual product, but I really like the ad itself. It takes a while to pick up, but when it does...rocking!

Robert Morgan - The Cat With Hands

Here is a really cool short with a creepy nightmarish feel. It's got a cool blend of live action and animation. You can read a little bit about the inspiration for this along with the reason for the time it took to complete the short, which was a year. That stuff is all secondary, though, because the real action is in the clip itself. Freaky-deaky! Thanks to Angie for the link

Coca Cola: Happiness Factory

I know it's like a long commercial to sell you Coke, and I just don't care. The Happiness Factory animated short is amazing. You may have seen some TV spots of this, but here you can see the full thing. I haven't really gotten past the first movie on the splash page, but it looks like there may be more content and things to do once you enter the site. Gorgeous!

Portal: The Flash Version

Here's a Flash version of the recent valve game Portal. It was developed without any association to the actual publishers, and is just a fan-made thing, but it's really, really fun. It's also really really hard. From what I can tell tell there are 40 total levels, but after my initial run I find I'm stuck at 15. If you get higher, let me know. Thanks to Dave for the link.

Push Ups for Paul

I usually keep political stuff off this site, but friend Kenny Roy recently started this one to support his candidate of choice: Ron Paul. For each person who pledges to talk to people about Paul, he'll do one push up. I'd like to see how may he can do, really. Details of the pledge are on the site. Go check it out.

Japanese Bug Fights!

This one is pretty self-explanatory. Two bugs enter, one bug leaves. The fights are called, but the announcer is Japanese, as is all the text on the screen, so unless you can understand the language on a high level, you'll just have to watch and pick up what you can. There are definitely some surprise winners in here. Thanks to Dave for the link.

Hot Chicks with Douchebags

This one is very self-explanatory. The blogger, who identifies himself only as Douchebag1, collects and publishes pictures of hot chicks who are seen with douchey guys. When he gets a picture he also breaks down why it is funny, which would normally detract from the hilarity, but he's a good enough writer where it definitely adds something. He also has developed some of his own slang which he uses on the site. Be sure to check out the "Hall of Scrote" where he catalogs some of the true standouts from the site. Thanks to Bryan for the link.

Brandon Bird's Brandon Bird-O-Rama

This is the portfolio website of artist Brandon Bird. His art it definitely infused with pop-culture in a hilarious way. The Norton Anthology is one of my favorites, a gallery show Bird organized featuring art about Edward Norton. Letters to Walken (Christmas letters written to Christopher Walken) is also excellent, as is the cutout mask of Christopher Walken you can make at home. Fun!

FRITTURE

Here are several pictures of things that have been battered and deep fried. All of the things are inedible (and the plastic ones will probably let some sort of terrible chemicals into your deep-fryer's oil if you try this at home) but I still admire what's going on her. I personally love frying things, especially things that aren't traditionally fried, but this takes the process to the level of art. If you can't eat it, it must just be fried for it's own sake. Intriguing!

When Adventure Becomes...Repetitive

Here's a pretty good mashup of a whole bunch of trailers. I really am impressed at the way they put sentences together, and sometimes dialogue is assigned to characters from other movies entirely, thanks to clever editing. If you look at the thumbnail, you have a pretty good idea of what you're going to get. I definitely laughed a little at this one.

Hobo Gets a Buck

Here's an short film about a man who comes across a hobo holding a sign that proclaims he "Will Sing for $." The song is catchy, the film is cute, and the production values look really good. Fun to watch.

Samorost 2

Here's a fun point and click flash adventure game. Aliens steal your dog and you have to get him back. It won some awards and the artwork is very cool. If you want to play past the first chapter, it costs money (I have yet to beat the first chapter so it's a non-issue at the moment). Thanks to Dave for the link.

Josie's Lalaland

Here's an animated short that is absolutely gorgeous. I'm not sure it could get more stunning than this. It's definitely an art piece, and not especially narrative. It consists of a voice over and some of the most jaw dropping imagery I've seen in a long time. At the end there's a brief, and sad, explanation of what's going on, and why the film exists.

Mouse Party

This link lets you put mice from the mouse party into a machine that will tell you how each mouses drug of choice is effecting it's brain's synapses in order to make it feel altered. These mice party way harder than I do! The chemicals behind the feelings you get from alcohol, marijuana, LSD, methamphetamine, cocaine, ecstasy, and heroin are all detailed here. Plus, it's with cartoon mice! Thanks to Jeremy for the link.

YouTube: Top Hotties

Time for a new year. I'm recommitting to posting each weekday while still struggling vigorously in the fight against maturity. This site is a flash-based mosaic of the top sexy videos from YouTube, updated twice weekly. I can't say for sure, but I believe it's automated and based on tags, ratings, and views. From here you can get a thumbnail for each vid and easily watch the whole thing yourself. Be warned, this site has little discretion. When browsing the mosaic updated on Dec 29, 2007 I not only found videos like "How To Be a Sexy Pop Star," but also things like "Sexy Men Kissing (The Original)," which is just what it sounds like, "Hot for Words," a sexy video blog about the origins of language, and even "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy? - Tiny Tim." Cool format, too. Thanks to Greg for the link!
